Y'know how VH1 always has those crazy countdowns, like 100 most shocking moments, 100 best albums of all time, or my favorite 100 best love songs. lol. Well i'll be doin a mini version of that. Jess Mullen's Top 5 greatest voices of all time. . .
#5- Bob Dylan
Yea, i went and did it. Bob Dylan. Sure, he wrote some of the best music of all time. His lyrics are just amazing, and thats what i admire him most for. Some deep and thoughtful lyrics to a folky melody. But to put him on a countdown for his voice? A lot of people don't dig his nasaly sounding voice. But i love it! Can you only imagine how many people told him he would never make it in the music business??? It isn't some pop-py bubblegum sounding voice and he wasn't singing about some retarded boy meets girl, girls pines for boy kind of shit. This was the 60's mind you, and he was one of the first artists ever to write about real feelings, real situations, just real everything. And his voice is the same- it's real. It's real, and i think it set the sound of folk music forever.
#4- Janis Joplin
Oh gosh. Janis Joplin. How un-original huh Jess? Who doesn't have Janis on their fav voices list? Well then you can't blame me, she had the most amazing voice EVER. She also was very real, but in a way more so than Bob Dylan. She had feeling with every note she belted out. I dunno, I can't describe it- it was just awesome. Like, you can just feel what shes was feeling at that time, and sometimes you can really relate- it's just wonderful. Words will never be able to describe how amazing Janis Joplin's voice was.
#3- Van Morrison
Ah yes, Van Morrison. How can I possibly begin to explain Van Morrisons voice to people who have probably never heard it? Well I'll give it a shot. Maybe it's because he has sentimental value to me, having grown up listening to him my whole life, and my parents actually are big fans of his as well. But Van Morrison is one of those singers you've got to experience. You listen to him and you find yourself REALLY listening to every lyric, he will never be backround music. He's just really great to listen to when you just wanna chill out. He's feel-good music- and thats always great.
#2- Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney has proved that he isn't just famous because of the beatles, he was probably the most sucessful beatle after the breakup. But out of all of the beatles, he has the best voice. Whether he's belting it out like little richard, or singin it like he's serenading someone very special(which every girl with correct vision wishes it was her)his voice is the most pleasing to listen to. I firmly believe he is one of the greatest voices of rock and roll. Just listen to the diversity of his music! You can listen to something like And I Love her, or Michelle, and the listen to somethin like Helter Skelter, or Oh woman, oh why, and it just sounds so good. It's just amazing! He's amazing! And he just looks so god damned good doing it! :)
#1- Micky Dolenz
HA! I bet i surprised ya with that one! You just werent expecting it. But yea- Micky Dolenz has the best voice i've ever come across. Now don't laugh at me cuz i'm fully aware that he was the goofy one from the monkees, but his voice should be taken very seriously. I'm a believer (HA! monkee humor lol) that he would've been much more famous if he flew solo durin the 60's, like not become a teen idol and sing about crap half of the time. If he really got into it, he could've been taken a lot more seriously, and he would've been more recognized for his voice. He's got this real jazzy sound to his voice and its just so smooth, i'm absolutely in love with it. I could listen to him forever. I just wish the music was better. But i suppose his voice makes up for most of it.
